Hello! Welcome to the most recent installment of Paige Hoel moving somewhere super cool! This year’s episode: Boulder Colorado
After a conference last November, I was lucky enough to make a connection with two superb women scientists working at the National Center for Atmospheric Resarch. In March I reached out to them again, and in April I had a contract for a half time position in the GIS section of the Resarch Applications Lab.
SO just over a week ago my best friend came out to Redlands, I packed my bags, and we drove out to Colorful Colorado!

Our road trip was incredible (see arches here), the ultimate destination even better.
Boulder is small and approachable. The community is so active and from what I can tell very proud of the university. It feels familiar here, but I have not been back to Colorado since I was two. The size of the town is similar to Redlands and Santa Barbara. The weather has been a mix between the two as well.
The altitude has been fine apart from my first time swimming laps here. I am making an honest attempt to drink a LOT of water.
My first week of work was incredible. I am so excited to see what I get to be a part of in the coming year. I am one lucky kiddo!
My room is still a work in progress. I love the size of the space. I have a cool little loft where I can see the stars while I lay in bed at night. I also have space for a couch or loveseat in my room BUT being upstairs and not having a truck have held me from getting any significant furniture yet. To be determined how I will use this space.

On that note, a lot of things are currently to be determined in my life. I don’t know what I’ll be doing this next summer, or where I will be living next year, but I am jazzed by the directions things are currently going. The unknown is such a beautiful thing because there is really nothing you can do about it. All I can do is live here and now, and soak up all the beauty Boulder has to offer.
Stay tuned for all the adventures in this Colorado year to come 🙂
